Password protect a Sub-Web in IIS

The technique described here is only available when running IIS under Windows NT/2000 or XP Pro. (Administrator privileges are needed to create user accounts and passwords)

Open IIS snap-in

Right click on folder and select Properties

 

Click on Directory Security tab

Click on Edit

 

Password 2

 

 

Set Authentication methods as shown

You will receive this warning

 

 

Password 3

 

 

If you’re prepared to continue click Yes.

 

Anyone attempting to link to the sub-web folder will now be required to login using the User name/password set up in User accounts (Windows)
